Sony Computer Entertainment America is advertising for an Online Game Programmer to join its Santa Monica studio and the God of War production team.
On the US PlayStation site (in the 'About SCEA' section) a posting within the 'Jobs' database reads, "Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Santa Monica is seeking an Online Gameplay Programmer to join the team behind the critically acclaimed AAA titles God of War and God of War II."
'But that could be for any SCEA Santa Monica game?' I hear you cry, and you'd be right to point that out, but the studio hasn't announced any games in the pipeline other than God of War III.
It would certainly be a little out of the ordinary for a traditional hack 'n slash game to have dedicated online gameplay features. However, the job description does specify that candidates will have to "Interact with Gameplay Programmers to make existing and new code support desired network functionality (including networking of gameplay state, lobbying, commerce, chat, security, and similar)."
In other words, if the job position is for God of War III then it certainly suggests that the game will have extensive online multiplayer features.
However, the job posting also reads "Please be advised that the following job description may not reflect a position that is currently available. This job description may exist to simply gather interest, and may or may not ever become an approved open position," which means that it should be taken with a fairly chunky pinch of salt.
