Brothers in Arms developer signs a deal with Epic to exclusively use Unreal Engine 3 in their next-generation projects...
Gearbox Software has today announced that they have reached an agreement with Epic making Unreal Engine 3the exclusive technology used by the company in the development of next-generation console and PC Gearbox-owned IPs.
Having used a previous incarnation of the Unreal Engine, Gearbox has developed the Brothers franchise over two titles (Road to Hill 30 and the forthcoming Earned in Blood) and will be using the UE3 in the production of Brothers in Arms 3, recently announced for PlayStation3 at Tokyo Game Show.
âWe have had a huge amount of success using the Unreal Engine technology on Brothers In Arms Road to Hill 30, which has sold about 2 million copies so far, and weâre also using it on Brothers In Arms Earned in Blood.â says Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, âWeâve used most of the major 3D engines on the market and without a doubt Unreal Engine 3 is the best. Epicâs tools, technology and support are fantastic. Weâve chosen Unreal Engine 3 as the exclusive technology we will use for all of our own titles going forward into the next generation. Weâre confident that our ability to continue to create world-class titles will be enhanced by this choice.â
âWeâve admired Gearbox Software since their earliest days and having the chance to work with them on Brothers In Arms made us realize that Gearbox Software is one of the best development studios in the world.â said Mark Rein, Vice President, Epic Games Inc. âGearbox Software has done amazing work on several of the industryâs top franchises and with Brothers In Arms they created their own hugely successful world-class entertainment property. It is especially gratifying for us that Gearbox Software has chosen Unreal Engine 3 as the technology for their original games for the next generation.â
The number of developers bolstering their next-gen creations with Unreal Engine 3 seems to be growing all the time with Midway, Vivendi-Universal and NCSoft all signing agreements in recent months with the technology seemingly the toolset of choice in the new generation of gaming.
Weâll have more news on both Gearbox and Epic in the futureâ¦
