Back in the Spring, Eidos revealed that 'old skool' title Gauntlet was in development for the Nintendo DS - today, the UK outfit confirmed that the update will arrive in October.

In production at Foundation 9's Backbone Entertainment, the latest handheld edition of the 1980s classic includes four-player multiplayer over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, along with VoIP via the DS' built-in mic. Over forty maps are being produced for the revamped title, which sees the iconic group of classes, Warrior, Elf, Valkyrie, and Wizard once again battling through the collective hordes of evil.

"With Gauntlet we've revitalised all of the action and fun of the original 1980s arcade classic, whilst updating the visuals and gameplay for today's DS gamer," said Ray Livingston, Brand Manager at Eidos. "With four-player Wi-Fi cooperative mode, one of the most memorable multiplayer gaming experiences of all time is back with a bang."
