Gard Back Behind Tomb Raider News

Eidos confirm that Toby Gard will be assisting Crystal Dynamics to develop the new Tomb Raider title…

Eidos today sent word that Toby Gard has joined forces with Crystal Dynamics to work on the new Tomb Raider title as one of the senior designers.

Despite amazing us with the sheer quality of Galleon, which certainly has managed to stand the test of time despite the problems faced in its lengthy development, Tomb Raider fans will need no reminding that Gard was one of the original creative minds behind Tomb Raider and Lara Croft.

Having disagreed with Eidos and Coreâs policy of releasing annual Tomb Raider titles, Gard left the employment of Core Design after the release of the first Tomb Raider and founded his own studio Confounding Factor, which began work on Galleon back then in development for the SEGA Dreamcast.

Sadly the troubles associated with that game have led to reports of Confounding Factorâs demise, and whilst we cannot verify this completely, todayâs news does seem to back this up.

The fact that the creative genius behind the Tomb Raider franchise is back again should be reason alone to forget the dreadful Angel of Darkness; whilst weâre assured that the team at Crystal Dynamics are drawing upon a great deal of research to ensure Lara finds her fame once again, with the team currently listening to consumer and editorial feedback to build a title that theyâre proud of â“ and one that youâll want to play.

Weâll have more information soon.
