IGN Entertainment and SCEI announce deal to bring online multiplayer technology to PSP developers...

IGN Entertainment today announced an agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) to make its GameSpy online multiplayer technology available to PSP developers.

Used in more than 300 PC and Playstation2 titles to date, GameSpy technology facilitates sophisticated online gaming features and allow players from across the globe to compete via a Wi-Fi connection.

"New online elements in console and PC games like Battlefield 2 are increasing hours of game play and attracting more players," said Mark Stieglitz, Vice President and General Manager of IGN Entertainment's Publisher Services. "Now we are able to help add functions such as persistence and team play to the online game titles for "PSP". Plus, developers are familiar with our technology already, having used it to create more than 300 PC and "PlayStation2 games, so they should be able to adapt quickly to this new tool."

"Over time, GameSpy's new infrastructure may change the way portable games are played. Developers can create games that span platforms; for example, a player can use a "PlayStation2" while in the dorm and a portable system like a "PSP" at the library, with both systems contributing to the same game and the player's results. Game developers can even include combined statistics on custom web-based pages, encouraging the dynamic community that is central to many successful games," added Stieglitz.

lol an 80 gb psp is not possible unless they use ssd hard drives which cost sh*t loads to buy independantly maybe you should get used to dreaming, though if they stop making any games for it or make a psp that could only get games from the ps3 then y... [ Read full comment... ]

UMD already dead. Sony has nothing to lose by adding
SD stuff on the Blu-ray discs for PSP viewing.

good point but i think i would only pay about $250 and not bother with the touch screen.with mobile tec in there you could play games over the net any time any where but only at a reasonable price of course.

Sony should have added a 40 or 80 gig internal hard drive like the ipod to the psp instead of making it thinner and lighter! With the extra space it would be
