Fifteen years ago nobody would have thought that the likes of Golden Axe and Afterburner would seen on a Nintendo console, but that's all changed today as SEGA confirms its support for the Nintendo Revolution's Virtual Console. According to the statement SEGA plans to release a 'Best of...' selection of Genesis (MegaDrive) titles on the next-gen console when it arrives later in 2006 although exact games weren't specified.
"SEGA continues to develop innovative ways to showcase its new generation leadership," says Naoya Tsurumi, Chief Executive Officer, SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe, Ltd. "SEGA's support of the Virtual Console system will introduce more gamers to classic Genesis hits and reinvigorate many of our popular brands."
News of the deal broke during Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's keynote speech at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose, where he also announced that Hudson would also be supporting the Virtual Console with classic PCEngine/TurboGrafix titles.
