NDL's forthcoming next-gen game techology becomes official Xbox2 partner...
In what has been a busy day for 3D graphic developer NDL, the company has announced that itâs forthcoming engine and toolkit, Gamebryo 2, set for release in Summer 2005 will be able to deliver full support for Microsoftâs Xbox2 console.
NDLâs previous technology has been behind a number of videogames, including the likes of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Playboy: The Mansion and Sid Meierâs Pirates! amongst many others.
Traditionally seen as being financially economic with the current version of Gamebryo enabling developers, ââ¦to spend more time creating great graphics and visual enhancements for their titles while at the same time reducing their overall development risks and costs,â the release of Gamebryo 2 and its subsequent support of the Next Generation Xbox is sure to be seen as boost for developers of the platform and comes on top of a number of Xbox2 middleware announcements.
In a statement, John Austin, President and CEO of NDL said, "To take full advantage of the next generation Xbox platform, developers must create a tremendous amount of content. They must focus their energy and resources on art and gameplay. Gamebryo 2 enables the developer to easily take advantage of the next generation Xbox platform.â
The announcement has also won praise from Microsoft, with Tracey Frankcom, Program Manager, Xbox tools and middleware acknowledging that, âNDL has established a strong reputation in the games industry, with a flexible 3D technology toolkit that was optimized effectively for the Xbox platformâ¦We are pleased that Gamebryo 2 supports the next generation Xbox platform and we will work closely with NDL to ensure that development teams are provided with the best new technologies available on the market. This will offer game developers a head start in harnessing the power of the platform, allowing them to focus on creating the high definition visuals and innovative game content that gamers will be demanding."
Weâll have more on the Next-Generation Xbox and the various bags of tricks shortly
