Xbox visionary opens up the Next Generation Xbox experience, ushering in the HD Era…
Backtracking over previous comments, Microsoft today shed a little information on the Next-Generation Xbox, although the surprise was somewhat let out of the bag with today's earlier announcement.
Commenting during his keynote speech, the talismanic J Allard ushered in the "HD Era", hinted at the future of Xbox Live! and skipped over specific details on the hardware.
Citing gamers demands for experiences that are always connected, always personalized and always high-definition, Allard relied upon the traditional policy of breaking down technological barriers, boldly declaring that "in the HD Era the platform is bigger then the processor".
Building upon ten years of experience with DirectX, Windows and Xbox, the speech centred upon the Next-Generation Xbox Guide - a gateway across all game and media experiences that hopes to evolve the sense of community and free up developer resources.
Features of the Guide have already been talked about today, and stamp a feeling of good-old fashioned "commerce" across the Next-Generation Xbox experience â“ gamers selling their creations and extras???
With conflicting reports on the spiralling costs of next-generation development and middleware solutions, Allard confirmed that features of The Guide such as Custom Playlists, Xbox Live! Friends List and Voice-Chat are processed on a chip level, opening up developers' time and more importantly forcing a standard over the Xbox Live! experience.
Allard concluded the speech with a depiction of the "HD Era" and the Next-Generation Xbox experience, "â¦character movements and expressions are intensely vibrant and nearly indiscernible from real life; by multichannel, positional audio fidelity so clear and precise that players will be able to hear the faintest enemy footsteps sneaking up behind them; by richer online communications; and by an abundance of on-demand content for game consoles."
As a final encore lucky attendees were helped into the HD Era, with reports of Allard giving out 1000 Samsung HiDef TVâs to the audience â“ weâre hoping a similar speech is planned for E3!
