Sony warns that the PSP update released on the web over the weekend was an accident and that it may damage the hardware…

It has been announced by Sony today that a PSP updater, made available across the net by mistake, may damage the hardware if installed. Although the files have been confirmed by Sony as authentic, they have advised PSP owners to refrain from downloading the updater.

What is very intriguing is that the update gives a glimpse at some of the non-gaming applications that Sony could possibly be developing for the portable system including a web browser, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and a text to speech app. This follows news last week that Sony were planning a technology that would allow the PSP to receive TV signals.

Fortunately for the PSP owners that have downloaded and damaged their machines, Sony have also advised that they are willing to repair them â“ for a price.

The PSP is set for a European and North American debut in March (hopefully), and weâll have more news on the portable system soonâ¦

lol an 80 gb psp is not possible unless they use ssd hard drives which cost sh*t loads to buy independantly maybe you should get used to dreaming, though if they stop making any games for it or make a psp that could only get games from the ps3 then y... [ Read full comment... ]

UMD already dead. Sony has nothing to lose by adding
SD stuff on the Blu-ray discs for PSP viewing.

good point but i think i would only pay about $250 and not bother with the touch screen.with mobile tec in there you could play games over the net any time any where but only at a reasonable price of course.

Sony should have added a 40 or 80 gig internal hard drive like the ipod to the psp instead of making it thinner and lighter! With the extra space it would be
