Further 'Cagney' Details Emerge For Burnout Paradise News

By Gwynne Dixon on 16/04/2008 Criterion reveals more about the online Stunt Run, Marked Man, and Road Rage events in the next update...

Further to Criterion's reveal of three new online events in the third Burnout Paradise update (codenamed 'Cagney') during a recent Crash FM podcast, the developer has now provided some more details about these events on its website.

There's still no ETA for 'Cagney', although the second update ('Bogart') is set for release on April 24th. In the meantime, here are the details for 'Cagney' as they appear on Criterion's website:

Online Stunt Run:

- This is 8-player simultaneous online Stunt Run - everyone competes for the highest score within the 2 minute time limit and you can play anywhere in Paradise City. - An on-screen display shows all player scores, so you can easily see how you're doing. - Earn multipliers for taking each other out but you lose your combo score, if you're taken down. - Eliminated players are greyed out of the scoring area but can exact brutal revenge by chasing after players that have managed to keep their combos alive beyond the time-out. - For the first time, you can drive alongside someone as they complete a billion score in Stunt Run - you can absolutely use this mode to try and show off to your friends.

Online Road Rage:

- This is an 8-player online team event. - At the start, everyone chooses their team (red or blue). - One team of "runners" has to drive to a checkpoint then the finish - they can only see one checkpoint ahead. - The other team has to take them down. These guys can see the checkpoint and finish and choose whether to wait and ambush in key locations, shortcut to the action if they get left behind or just follow the pack and cause chaos.

Online Marked Man:

- We randomly choose a "Marked Man". - There's an intense few moments, while all players wait for the selection to be made - you want to stay close to other players, so you can hit the Marked Man, as soon as he's selected but far enough away that that you can run like hell if it's you that's the Marked Man. - The target is selected and a 90 second timer starts - you get 1 point if you survive and 1 point if you take down the Marked Man. After 90 seconds a new Marked Man is selected at random. - If you're the Marked Man, you can't see the attacking players on the map, your car is a little slower and you don't get boost. - The session usually consists of around 10-12 minutes of intense gameplay depending on the number of players involved.

These new online events will be available through the game's Freeburn mode and can be selected in the Easydrive menu. Criterion has also promised that even more Freeburn game modes are on the way, which cover "different themes and play styles".

the reason the 360 gets update firstis unlike the ps3 with its free online play 360 owners pay for the service and in return we get the updates first (most of the updates require payment of ms points where as the ps3 versions are of a higher cost as that service is free) the other rson why the updat came out for the ps3 first is sony just wanted exclusivity of the update even though it had loads of bugs in it, ms are a lot stricter than sony so we should get a more stable update.

I understand your disappointment "gth-77" But, now you no how PS3 owners of multi-conconsle games feel. when we get the shaft because Dev's are always pushing 360 updates and games out before PS3 version. Just like the COD4 map pack that PS3 owners had to wait for. the PS3 being lead on Burnout is probably the only reason it came out first.

now you can unless you own a 360, the cagney update is now online ready for download in the playstation store (360 owners have to wait another 3 weeks cause criterion games are too lazy to sort out the minor bugs on the 360 version)

nice game great multiplayer shame criterian games are back to being biast, the new cagney update is now available to PS3 fanboys but 360 has to wait even longer (talk about taking the pi**) the date for whaen they expect the update to happen on 360 is july 24th at the earliest. either way i doubt many 360 owners will return to it as its a pi** take of how long its going to take to release it. (tell em to get off the ps3 version and sort the 360 update out) i doubt it will take another 2 weeks to sort out what ever bugs it has (more like they were too obsesed with the ps3 to care about anyone else)

I don't have any older burnout games, but this one is by far the best racing game I've ever played. There is so much to explore it looks awesome there are 75 cars in the game. So much better than Motostorm by many factors of 10. My current favorite PS3 game.

the problem is its now a franchise of EA as EA also wants gta4 and midnight club aswell looks like all the best games will eventually get eaten up by EA. you realy dont understand just how cr*p this game realy is till you spend less than 40 hours completing the game 100% every thing done including the online modes, revenge is in a totaly different leuge (pardon my spelling) and its also the better game as most of the features that made burnout what it is, is in that game when if you look at burnout paradise it resembles more need for speed than burnout (the way the cars handle, the way the ai behaves especially the oncomming traffic that always seems to swerve into you, the fact there are no crash events "showtime cant be included") EA are criminals and there killing all major game brands. if EA gets "take 2" then its good bye gta and midnight club as being good games not only that but EA shuts down servers for its old games like tiger woods golf 07 the servers were turned off just so they could force people to buy the newer version with very little difference to the previous game thats how burnout will be next time. so next time you think EA is doing a favour by helping out a developer studio just think what studio there planning to take over, i just hope its not "take 2" yet

As a loyal fan of the series since the beginning, I can't understand all the hate. I'm already approaching the hundreds of hours I had on Revenge, and this game has only been out for two months... These updates are going to make it so I can't stop playing, as if that's not already a problem
