Rockstar details further multiplayer modes for GTA IV including Team Car Jack City, Turf War, and Race...
While our recent multiplayer hands-on with GTA IV allowed us to checkout five game modes, Rockstar has now detailed a further three multiplayer modes (Turf War, Team Car Jack City, and Race) on its GTA IV website.
Turf War, it would seem, is set to feature a similar style of bass capturing gameplay to DICE's Battlefield series. Team Car Jack City sounds very similar to The Wedding List mode from the GTA Stories games on PSP, while Race is set to offer the traditional Midnight Club style race events.
In Turf War, various basses dotted around the city can be captured by standing next to them (having teammates with you captures the base faster). However, if enemies are nearby than you'll have to dispense with them before the base can be captured. Scoring is represented by money earned for the amount of bases your team manages to hold.
As with GTA's The Wedding List on the PSP, Team Car Jack City challenges players to steal cars that spawn across the map. These cars must then be driven to a drop-off point and, the less damaged they are, the more money you'll get for your team. However, unlike The Wedding List, there will also be bonus cars that are stuffed with drugs - any damage on these doesn't affect your loot.
Although the GTA IV website only reveals a Team multiplayer mode for Car Jack City, we very strongly suspect that it will also be featured as an individual mode as well (as with Deathmatches and Mafiya Work).
Race is the usual Midnight Club style affair, with players having to race their vehicles between checkpoints across the city against other GTA IV nuts. However, there is one huge exception to this: boat and helicopter races will be included in the game as well as the conventional car offerings, with hosts being able to select vehicle types, classes, and the number of laps in a race.
Additionally, two types of track are on offer. These are the usual point-to-point affairs (which are more like a traditional circuit), and Cannonball Runs where you'll have to reach a variety of checkpoints via the quickest route you can find.
These conventional Races differ from the previously detailed GTA Race in that no weapons or munitions will be involved. As far as GTA Race is concerned, though, screenshots on the GTA IV site confirm that helicopters will also be available for these weapon packed races.
One final revelation on the GTA site was a variant of the Cops n' Crooks mode we saw in our hands-on. While we played a VIP style version (called 'All For One') with a Boss on the Crooks side, there will also be a 'One For All' variant where this is no Boss and the aim is simply to take out all of the opposing Cops/Crooks.
