Microsoft confirms that the latest instalment in the 25-year old franchise is departing from Gate X...


Microsoft has today confirmed that Flight Simulator X, the latest incarnation of the quarter of a century old Flight Simulator series, has gone gold ahead of its release on October 13th.

Over 24,000 airports are featured in the game, along with new aircraft like the deHavilland DHC-2 Beaver floatplane and Grumman G-21A Goose , and over 50 missions as diverse as air-dropping relief aid to taking part in the Red Bull air races. Flight Simulator X also includes expanded online functionality, which will allow gamers to choose their roles as they interact with other virtual pilots from around the globe.

Unveiled at CES 2006, Flight Simulator X was originally pencilled in for a release during the early part of 2007, so news that the game will be launched at least three months ahead of schedule will be a surprise to some.
