First Non-Sony UMD Movies Announced News

Lions Gate Films becomes the first non-Sony company to sign up to the UMD format...
Although the PSP has itâs sights on becoming a multimedia âWalkman for the 21st Centuryâ allowing for films and music, as well as the games to be played, one concern has been that third party movie companies will have to sign up to the consoleâs UMD format for it (the movie side) to be a success.
Weâve had several Sony Pictures titles already announced, and today BBC Online has been reporting that the first third party company, Lions Gate Films has signed up to the UMD format.
Although perhaps not the most well-known name in the movie world, it has been responsible for distributing films including Saw, Open Water, and The Punisher. Whilst this can be considered quite a boost for the PSP movie catalogue, itâs worth pointing out that Sony has quite a close relationship with LGF, and has co-distributed a few Lions Gate movies abroad under the Columbia TriStar name (The Punisher being a good example of this.)
Weâll have more on the PSP shortly...
