EA release new details regarding their Lord of the Rings title.
EA today announced new details regarding their videogame adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. Originally believed to be based on the first movie, Fellowship of the Ring, itâs now known that the game will follow events from the second film, The Two Towers. Presumably this is to provide a better tie-in with the game set for release at the same time as the second movie, and to differentiate from Universal-Vivendiâs Lord of the rings game based on the novels.
Surprisingly EA confirmed that the game would only appear on the PS2 and GBA for the time being. The PS2 version is currently in development at Stormfront Studios and EAâs own Redwood Shores Studio. Players will be able to choose from Aragorn the Ranger, Legolas the Elf or Gimli the Dwarf through 16 levels taking place in a variety of environments. EA promise a ââtactical gameplay systemâ that will encourage players to react quickly and be strategic with their selection of characters, weaponry and combat movesâ.
The GBA version is currently in development at Griptonite Games, a division of Amuse Entertainment. The game will allow players to take control of four characters: Aragorn, Legolas, Frodo and Gandalf the Wizard. Over 30 levels per character will challenge each member of the Fellowship, bringing the grand total to over 120 levels in the entire game. Linked play will accommodate two-player multiplayer action via the GBA Link Cable.
