Sony Computer Entertainment Europe France boss reveals that discussions are underway to make Final Fantasy XIII a PlayStation 3 exclusive...


Despite a number of previously exclusive PlayStation 3 titles jumping into the realm of multi-platform status (including Mercenaries 2: World in Flames and Devil May Cry 4), Square-Enix's Final Fantasy XIII is one game that you'd assume would be sewn up for the next-gen system. However, in an interview with newspaper Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace, the head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in France, Georges Fornay, suggests that this isn't the case...yet.

In the report, which comes just a day before PlayStation 3 makes a belated debut in Europe, Fornay said, "Enfin, pour Final Fantasy XIII, je peux vous dire que l'exclusivité est en discussion [Lastly, for Final Fantasy XIII, I can say to you that exclusiveness is under discussion]."

Square-Enix has announced in the last couple of months that they'd licensed Unreal Engine 3 for future titles (perhaps for the new Final Fantasy title said to be unveiled in May?), though Final Fantasy XIII is currently in development with the proprietary White Engine - which has recently been revealed as being 'open platform'.

For now, Final Fantasy XIII remains a PlayStation 3 exclusive, but if it were to become a multi-platform title, it would leave Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 as one of the last big third-party titles to stand exclusively in the PS3 camp.

It's ludicrous, how did Sony loose this one? Tretton's exclusives are weaker than the Halo's, Gear of War's, and 3rd party exclusives Microsoft forks out for.

Team Ico's game can't come soon enough to restore a little bit of credibility in the PS... [ Read full comment... ]

I think Versus will be the more popular FF... Many people dont like women as their protagonist (although i dont care) plus all the fan boys are pissed... (even i was surprised and i dont really care)

FF versus is going to be a lot better than FFXIII. I hate playing as a female protagonist. That s**t is gay as f**k!!! And I also think it's going to be better than FFVII. That game is so overated it's not even funny just like Halo 3 was.

ff7 so overracted plot was good but main villian was a joke he definitely was no Kefka. Give me an ff6 remake before 7 and that will show SE off that they look really good storylines and an actual challenge only FF7 which was a joke to beat
