US reports hint at a sequel to Monolith's horror/shooter, but not as we know it...
In a slightly strange twist of events, Gamespot is today reporting on Monolith's announcement that a sequel to the exciting yet-underperforming PC shooter F.E.A.R is currently underway, but not as the name would suggest.
In an announcement that seems to suggest Monolith will be heading the same was as Valve did after the release of Half Life 2, a sequel is currently in development, but because Vivendi-Universal own the rights to the name it will be branded something else entirely. Exactly why the two have gone their separate ways and divided the brand after just one title remains to be seen at this stage, though it's believed F.E.A.R wasn't as well received as some had hoped.
To complicate matters even further, Monolith and its owners warner Brothers, own the IP behind the title and as such the sequel will still be set in the same universe, containing characters from the first title and likely picking up where that game left off.
Next-generation console versions are mentioned alongside the PC version, whilst the report also brings up the age-old rumour of F.E.A.R making its way to the Xbox 360, something TVG advised Vivendi-Universal back in October upon the hefty spec needed to get the PC version running.
