EyeToy: Chat turns your Playstation2 & Network Adaptor into a videophone...
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today revealed further support for EyeToy in the shape of EyeToy: Chat; currently in development at Team London and scheduled for release in the summer 2004.
Highlighting the versatility that EyeToy brings to the Playstation2, EyeToy: Chat allows Playstation2 owners with the Network Adaptor to âopen up a whole new world of communication in their living roomâ.
Turning the Playstation2 into a videophone, EyeToy: Chat allows users anywhere in the world to communicate for free.
The application offers four different ways to communicate, including text, voice, video mail and one-to-one video chat. The Text Chat rooms allow a total of 256 users to talk together, whilst 16 people can converse in the Voice Chat rooms.
In addition to supporting one-on-one real-time video chat, users can also try their hand at one of three games included whilst using the video chat, including Chess, Draughts and Naval War. Finally EyeToy: Chat allows you to send 30-second video mail messages to people on your contact list.
Naturally the issue of child protection has been of paramount importance to SCEE, who have worked closely with a number of childrenâs charities to ensure the experience is as safe as possible to use even for the youngest members of the family. New users will be required to register their details online at Playstation Net; whilst then having to verify their details by inputting the PIN number sent to their address.
With strict safety measures in place, chat room moderators and clear processes for grievances, SCEE are confident that âEyeToy: Chatâ represents one of the safest communication packages available on any system on the market.
Weâll have more information soon.
