Epic Games in conjunction with nVidia today confirmed that E3 would bring the first glimpse of the Unreal Engine 3 in action…
Designed to raise the bar of visual quality in 3D titles, Unreal Engine 3 is the first game engine to fully exploit Shader Model 3.0 â“ a key component of DirectX9 and enabled only on the nVidia GeForce 6 series of graphics cards.
Claiming to push the limits of game development with âadvanced lighting and shadowing capabilities, advanced shader effects and editing toolsâ; itâs likely that this will once again become the standard in the first-person-shooter genre and keep Sam Fisher looking tasty in future Splinter Cell titles, with previous versions of the Unreal engine behind over 70 titles to date.
"Together, the NVIDIA GeForce 6 series and the Unreal Engine 3 are the perfect solution for developers to meet the challenge of the constantly expanding game worlds and complexities of next-generation PCs and consoles," said Mike Capps, CEO of Epic Games. "The combination of these products will give E3 attendees a glimpse at the future of gaming."
"Unreal Engine 3 sets the bar for what games will look like over the coming years," said Bill Rehbock, director of developer relations at NVIDIA. "Working with the Unreal Engine is a compelling proposition for any game developer looking to push their games forward with innovative visuals, physics, and gameplay."
