SEGA confirms that the next instalment in the Total War series is due to leave port on February 6th 2009...
Creative Assembly's next RTS opus has been nailed down to a February 6th 2009 release, according to SEGA's official site for the game. Empire: Total War will be the first game to visit the Napoleonic theatre of war in the Total War series and is coming to the PC.
As the fifth game in the series (following Shogun, Medieval, Rome, and Medieval II), Empire: Total War will be the first to introduce 3D naval combat. Much to the annoyance of ardent Total War fans, previous sea-faring combat has only been resolvable in the game's turn-based map.
It will now be possible to command individual vessels during battle from within vast fleets, while you can even board enemy ships and control your attacking troops both above and below the enemy's decks. Variable water and weather effects should also serve to shake things up aplenty.
With a single-player campaign that starts in 1700, players will be able to sculpt their own history through periods that bring about the American struggle for independence, the Industrial Revolution, and the fight to secure Eastern trade routes.
