More madcap racing heading to the Playstation2, Xbox and PC later this year...
With sales drawing close to 800,000 units, Empire Interactive today announced a sequel to its destructive racer in the form of FlatOut 2, currently in development at Bugbear Entertainment for the Playstation2, Xbox and PC.
Featuring an enhanced version of the original's "fly through a window" physics engine and even more frantic track designs, FlatOut 2 promises a host of extra improvements designed to improve the overall experience.
With over twice as many vehicles including additional types such as Sports, Pickup Trucks and Compacts joining the original's Muscle line-up, FlatOut 2 includes an all-new Garage mode allowing players to collect more then just one vehicle throughout the game.
The action switches from Europe to North America, with environments including the Big City, LA Storm Drains, Rocky Mountain Forests, Corn Fields and Desert, allowing for over 60 different track combinations compared to the 36 found in the original. Bugbear have also implemented alternative track routes this time around, which both the player and AI opponents can make use of; speaking of which, the developers also promise a host of improvements to the AI, benefiting from each having their own character, biography and individual driving personalities. Continuing the theme of expanding upon the original's premise, FlatOut 2 features twice as many Destruction Derby Arenas and Rag-Doll Mini Games compared to its predecessor, with the popular Rag-Doll events expanded into Championships along with online support.
FlatOut 2 also introduces online multiplayer for the first time on the Playstation2 and PC, allowing up to eight players on Xbox Live and the PC with six on the Playstation2. Offline multiplayer is also promised on all formats by way of four-player splitscreen.
FlatOut 2 is scheduled for a UK release in May; TVG will have a closer look at the title soon...
