Free running videogame makes a return this time for the PSP...
Making its first appearance earlier in the year during a TV documentary exploring the rise in popularity of free-running across the UK, Eidos today lifted the lid on its parkour inspired forthcoming title.
Whereas the earlier demonstration of the title took place on the Playstation2, todayâs announcement confirms that Core Studios have been busy on the title bringing it to the suited PSP handheld.
For those that may not have caught it the first time around, Parkour, the art of movement, is described as âless a sport and more a way of lifeâ. Participants take the environment and its obstacles as a series of challenges to overcome. Since its inception in Paris during the mid-1980âs, the popularity of Parkour has spread across the globe and now appeals to an international audience.
The game looks to recreate the experience while on the move, pitting a concrete jungle as an urban playground for players to run across, vault, jump and climb over in the most fluid and flowing manner possible. Perform death-defying leaps of faith and jaw-dropping tricks across inner-city rooftops, as players attempt to become the King of Parkour. Over 50 different techniques to be mastered feature within the game, including âKong Vaultsâ, âPharoah Climbsâ, âRail Split Vaultsâ and âVertical Wall Runsâ, while racing against human or AI controlled opponents.
The game has been developed in conjunction with the assistance of Sebastien Foucan, one of the former founders of Parkour, along with Urban Freeflow, the UKâs foremost Parkour group. Sebastien appears throughout the game to mentor players in the tricks and techniques of Parkour, while members of Urban Freeflow also make an appearance as unlockable playable characters.
Matt Sansom, executive producer at Core Design says:
"After seeing these guys perform their amazing moves, we just knew we had to make it into a game. Working with Sébastien, Urban Freeflow and the other traceurs has been an amazing experience and hopefully people will feel the same buzz when playing the game. Free Running offers authentic, intense excitement which is true to the spirit and art of parkour."
Weâll have more on Free Running very soonâ¦
