EA lifts the wraps on its agreement with Marvel; first title confirmed...
Finally breaking the silence that has kept comic-book fans tittering on the edge of suspense for months on end, EA today lifted the wraps on its partnership with Marvel Enterprises.
Announcing the first of what is likely to be a range of titles, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is currently in development at Nihilistic (Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, Starcraft: Ghost) for the Playstation2, Xbox, GameCube and the Sony PSP.
As previously suspected, the game will feature Super Heroes from the Marvel universe along with a set of new characters created by EA in collaboration with leading comic-book talent.
Featuring more then a dozen characters in fully interactive and destructible environments, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is best described as Def Jam with Superheroes, while the promise of unique attributes and super powers should provide some much needed depth and variety.
Fearing the wrath of comic-book fans across the globe, EA and Nihilistic have enlisted the talent of writers and concept artists, such as Jae Lee for Marvel character and game design along with renowned expert, Paul Catling, to create the new family of superheroes.
Lee has illustrated high-profile comic book titles including Spider-Man, Uncanny X-men, X-Factor, Captain America, Transformers Versus G.I. Joe and his own creation Hellshock. Catling is best known for his concept artwork and character design on Hollywood blockbuster films including Spider-Man 2, AVP: Alien Vs. Predator, The Punisher, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.
To coincide with the release Marvel will introduce a new six issue mini-series, Marvel Nemesis: The Imperfects, pitting Marvel Super Heroes including Spider-Man, Wolverine, The Thing and Elektra against EAās Niles Van Roekel, an evil scientist out to create an army of vicious warriors. Through each of the issues a new EA Super Hero will be unveiled monthly leading up to the gameās release this Autumn.
"Marvel Nemesis delivers the definitive Super Hero videogame allowing gamers to play as and against the world's greatest Super Heroes," said Marc Aubanel, Executive Producer, EA Canada. "Marvel Nemesis truly captures the Marvel Universe offering players an authentic Super Hero fighting experience that comic book fans and gamers have been asking for."
Ames Kirshen, Director Of Video Game Development at Marvel Enterprises (NYSE:MVL), added, "We are thrilled to be working with EA and collaborating with some of the top talents in both the videogame and comic book industries in creating this groundbreaking comic series and innovative fighting game franchise."
