The ever-expanding software giant makes an offer that the Board of Digital Illusions can’t refuse…
Swedish developers, Digital Illusions, looks set to become part of the colossus that is Electronic Arts â“ if the shareholders of DICE feel the same way as the companyâs Board of Directors.
In a public statement, the Board of Digital Illusions said that, âIn light of the challenges that the game industry faces, with increased development costs and the coming technological change, the Board is of the opinion that a merger between Digital Illusions and EA is industrially and strategically correct. EA can bring the technology and resources that make possible and facilitate the transition to the new game platforms.â
It goes on to say that, âBased on a collective assessment, the Board is of the opinion that the offer is fair and has therefore unanimously decided to recommend the shareholders of Digital Illusions to accept the offer.â
TVG recently talked to DICE, and they confirmed to us that, âwe have already signed a contract for development of a whole new brand in the action genre with Electronic Arts.â If the merger was to go ahead, then it does throw into doubt the future of the Rallisport Challenge franchise that DICE developed for Microsoft Game Studios.
