Electronic Arts announces that development is indeed underway on a Tony Hawk killer...

Yesterday TVG reported on news from North America that Electronic Arts was working on a skateboarding title for PlayStation3, imaginatively called 'Skate'. Today, the developer/publisher confirmed that development of the game was indeed underway at their Black Box studio in Canada, and that Skate would be released on Xbox 360 as well as PlayStation3 in 2007.

"Our game offers a skate mecca for both skaters and gamers in search of the definitive authentic skating video game experience," said Scott Blackwood, Executive Producer, EA Black Box. "We're focused on capturing the actual feeling of skating with the innovative control system, the physics driven animations, the intelligent cameras working together to really deliver the closest thing to being on a board."

EA also announced two of the professional skateboarders set to make an appearance in the game, Danny Way and PJ Ladd, together with confirmation that the animations will be purely driven by physics for a more natural experience.

We'll have more news shortly...
