The Orange Box and The Black Box bring Xbox 360, PS3 and PC gamers up to speed...

Bridging the gaps between platforms ahead of the climatic Episode Three, EA and Valve today confirmed the forthcoming release of Half Life 2: The Black Box and The Orange Box for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation3.

What was originally dubbed Half Life 2: Episode Two will now be entitled The Black Box for PC, marking an indication of the bumper pack that consists of the second chapter in the episodic Half Life 2 series, Portal and the hugely overdue, Team Fortress 2.

The Orange Box provides the solution for next-gen console gamers and PC fans that have yet to enjoy Valve's seminal first-person-shooter. Containing all of the new titles from The Black Box edition, this version will also include the original Half Life 2 and Episode One, to bring everybody up to scratch.

"In less than 18 months, we've shipped 10 new products to retail outlets with EA Partners," said Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve. "The Black Box and The Orange Box represent a new approach to publishing multiple products, on multiple platforms and we know through our experience that no organization in the industry is better equipped to successfully launch new product types on multiple platforms than EA Partners."

"Valve is one of the world's premiere independent developers and EA Partners is thrilled to help them bring the groundbreaking action games in The Orange Box and The Black Box to market as their publishing partner," said David DeMartini, vice president and general manager of EA Partners.

Valve gets added to my s__t list for such an unmerited and political statement.

Compared to any other console launch the PS3 has done well, with a wide variety of great games, a great reliability record, and a great price considering it's technolo... [ Read full comment... ]
