In space, no one can hear you... Well, we're sure you all get the gist so we'll save you the clichés...
EA have announced that their Redwood Shores Studio is producing a sci-fi survival horror game called Dead Space. This latest title to fall into the classic gaming genre will come out on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in autumn 2008.
Gamers will step into the shoes (or rather just above and behind the shoes) of engineer Isaac Hayes from a third person perspective. Hayes is "An ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship" - you can almost hear that deep, penetrating film trailer voice, can't you?
Dead Space will play on the isolation of space for its suspense and horror, placing Hayes on a ship where the crew have been rather nastily dealt with by some quite disagreeable aliens. Gamers will be glad to hear that the title will see the usual application of blood and gore that the genre is famed for.
"This team has worked on some tremendous properties but we have always wanted to work on something that was darker and creepier," said Executive Producer Glen Schofield. "We are all such huge fans of the horror and sci-fi genres; we wanted to create the most terrifying game we could, and keep the player on the edge of his seat the entire time."
