E3 2002: Shaun Murray's Pro Wakeboarder News

Shaun Murray is sweet and stylish!!!

Activision O2 is making a truly superb showing at E3 2002. Not only do they have the return of Tony Hawk and Mat Hoffman, but they have also come with a few originals. Coming into this event, I was pumped, but nothing has surprised me as much has Shaun Murray Pro Wakeboarder.

I guess Iām sort of in awe at it, Iām not a fan of wakeboarding. The idea of hanging on to a boat by a rope rather frightens me. Ah yes, but leave it to the folks at O2 to put me back into check.

This day and age, you would expect every Activision Extreme sports game to look and act like THPS, but this is certainly not the case. Shaun Murray Pro Wakeboarder boosts itās own system and itās own qualities that are hard to match. For instance, lets talk about lines. As most will tell you, these extreme sports games are all about lines. The difference in Shaun Murray Pro Wakeboarder is that no to lines are ever the same. What I mean is that the control and physics of the game, allow it so that, you have total freedom to your wakeboard. Judging from the demo, you can perform tricks with or without the cord, in other words, you have to use the cord to gain speed and to keep up with the boat, but then you can say jump to a platform in a grind without the rope, then when you finish the grind, you jump back into the water and regain control of the rope. It all makes for a damn sweet sequence of tricks and visuals.

Also in demo form I notice something rather neat. In the middle of a trick, you could slow down the game to perform the moves in slow-mo. Itās just look freakinā sweet. It combines the awe of extreme sports with the awe of The Matrix, and leaves an awe impression on you.

Clearly, in itās demo form, Shaun Murray looks promising. Donāt let the fact that it is a Wakeboarding game fool you. I would say that this is the next Tony Hawk, but itās not. It has itās own differences from the series, but it seems to be as solid. We will update you on this game regularly as it is definitely a game to look forward to.
