Find out whether we are drawn to this cartoon racer FROM Capcom
Auto Modelista from Capcom is playable on the show floor and we were eager to have a race or two with this very interesting looking cell shaded racer. The first thing you notice are the striking visuals, we initially thought cell shading a little odd for a racer but when you see it in motion, with lovely lighting and detailed cars that are both realistic and highly cartoony at the same time you will be convinced that Capcom made a good call.
The only way we could play the game was multiplayer, four-player link up, which was fun and a good indicator of the online play. We noticed a little bit of jumping with the cars perhaps due to latency issues which would be worrying if the game was running on a direct connection but we assume that it was using the online network. Whilst not a major distracting seeing cars jump a little bit is just frustrating and we hope that it is sorted out, but even if it isnāt it does not detract from the gameplay.
With a large number of cars to choose from and customise Auto Modelista looks to be a game of quite some size. The handling seems skewed to the arcade side of things, which given the graphical style is not that surprising. We were also interested to see that there was an arcade version on show, four cabinets linked up.
Whilst playing multi-player races was a great deal of fun we really wanted to sit down with the gameās one player mode and the replay mode that allows you to remix music and visuals on the fly. With the core gameplay and graphics working very well, and a good number of cars and options the main part of the game should hopefully be very compelling.
Things are looking good for this one and hopefully will just get better the more of it we see.
