Dragon Quest Finally Heads To Europe News

Square-Enix confirm a long overdue European debut for the Dragon Quest series...

Dragon Quest may not be a name commonly known throughout Europe given the fact that none of the titles in the 20-year series have been released across the territory, however the 40million+ selling franchise remains one of the most popular videogames within Japan eclipsing even the mighty Final Fantasy and one that the Japanese Diet (Japan's legislature) in 1988 requested that Enix only release new installments on a Sunday or during the holidays to avoid kids skipping school!.

Today however that all changes with confirmation that Square-Enix will release Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King (Dragon Quest VIII) for the Playstation2 across Europe in April 2006.

The game has been fully localised for its hugely anticipated European debut, featuring full voice-overs recorded by a British cast, a full orchestral soundtrack, a completely renovated menu system, new battle abilities and improved animations - aren't we the lucky ones.

Some of the biggest names in Japan have worked on the Dragon Quest series, including Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama who is responsible for character designs; Yuji Horii who penned the story and script; along with Koichi Sugiyama's talents in the soundtrack department.

John Yamamoto, President and CEO comments: "We are delighted to be bringing such a prestigious title to Europe. The launch of Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King marks a milestone for Square Enix as a leading European publisher, and will create a benchmark in gaming. There is high anticipation for Dragon Quest and this title will not disappoint".
