Famed “Godfather” of the football genre returns for a whole new generation of football games…
His name may not mean much to the younger gamers out there, however for a large number of twentysomething gamers turning into their thirties, the mere mention of the name Dino Dini should be enough to send shivers down your spine.
Before we had EA and Konami contesting the crown of the football genre, there was the mighty Dino Dini and his Kick Off series â“ the aptly named godfather of the football genre. His most famous games included Kick Off, Player Manager, Goal and Dino Diniâs Football, before a certain UK developer released a self titled footie game that all but wiped Kick Off from the face of the planet.
Well itâs time for the older gamers out there to start getting excited, as DC Studios today announced that they have secured the services of Dinoâs expertise to create a âwhole new generation of football gamesâ.
The agreement marks a return of sorts as DC Studios MD, Mark Greenshields, was the author of many Kick Off sequels such as Super Kick Off and Kick Off 2 on the SNES and NES.
Whilst specific details on the title are still under wraps, weâre told that it is being developed for the Playstation2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, GameBoy Advance, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP; whilst weâre promised that the offering will be substantially different to anything weâve seen before.
"The current generation of football games have no focus on the player," says Dino. "The game itself is the spectacle. This is a problem. It is the player's experience which is the key to creating a game which is accessible, playable and has long term appeal to players. If you can create an experience that satisfies the player each and every time they play the game, then you have created a classic."
Mark Greenshields, the managing director of DC-Studios, said, "Since working on Kick Off I have had the desire and passion to show the world how a football game should really be done. I've always planned on DC-Studios creating a football game at some point, but wanted to wait until we could contribute something genuinely new to the game. Dino and I had some long discussions last year and it was a revelation as we found we both agreed on almost every level about what could be done to create a football game with a difference. The agreement between DC and Dino is very exciting and we're looking forward to showing everyone the future of footballing videogames."
Weâll have more information on this soon.
