Sony New Zealand marketing boss reveals new functionality that could open up the PS3's capabilities...
In an interview with stuff.co.nz, Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand's Head of Marketing, Warwick Light, has revealed that a "digital tuner" will be available for the PS3 in New Zealand next year. This means the PS3 will be able to operate as a TV recorder, allowing it to store hours of programming on its hard drive for later viewing.
Light has been quoted as saying: "We're also hoping next year - about the same time that Freeview launches its terrestrial broadcasting service (expected to be in March) - to release a digital tuner for the PS3, turning it into a programmable TV recorder."
While the projected launch in New Zealand is set to coincide with the launch of Freeview, there has been no confirmation of such a digital tuner for the PS3 in any other territories as yet.
