Capcom confirms a multiplatform release for Devil May Cry 4; simultaneous launch on PlayStation3 and Xbox 360...
Capcom Japan has today confirmed that Devil May Cry 4 will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and will also see a release on PC - though the publisher is yet to decide exactly when that date will be.
News of the announcement had been anticipated as long ago as August 2006, when Japanese analysts suggested that sales of Capcom's Dead Rising on Xbox 360 could push other titles (including Devil May Cry 4) onto the system.
Somewhat ominously for Microsoft's hope of retaining Dead Rising and Lost Planet as Xbox 360 exclusives, Mark Beaumont, Executive Vice President, Officer and Head of Capcom Consumer Software Publishing in the Americas and Europe commented: "Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal...This announcement means that PS3, Xbox 360 and PC owners worldwide will be able to experience the latest instalment of one of Capcom's pillar franchises."
Devil May Cry 4 had been unveiled in May 2005 for PlayStation3, and now becomes the latest title the console has lost 'exclusivity' over, following the likes of Mercenaries 2 from Pandemic, and Assassin's Creed by Ubisoft.
Speaking of Ubi, can we assume that they'll be distributing the PC version of Devil May Cry 4 - sometime in 2009???
