Rumble-enabled SIXAXIS with improved motion sensitivity to be the future...

According to an anonymous post on innerbits.com, a blog where "games developers speak out", the PS3's SIXAXIS controller is to go through some radical changes in the coming months. This will include the long speculated rumble-enabled SIXAXIS, as well as new versions of the SIXAXIS with improved motion sensitivity which will be "quietly replacing the original controllers launched with the console".

The post states that prototypes of rumble-enabled SIXAXIS' have been sent to various Sony developers. It speculates that an official announcement of the new controllers will be made in the next two or three months, possibly even during the Leipzig Game Convention at the end of August.

As far as the improved motion sensitivity is concerned, the post's author comments that: "Sony has improved the fidelity of motion sensing in the controller. The original controllers apparently suffered of too much of a dead zone."

This follows Sony's agreement to pay the Immersion Corporation over $100 million for the right to continue selling their DualShock controllers and pave the way to add rumble technology to their SIXAXIS controllers on the PS3.
