Fiscal 2008 becomes the second biggest year for the Japanese publisher in terms of net sales...
Despite experiencing a 'weak performance' in its arcade sector, Capcom has today confirmed that the 2008 fiscal year was the second biggest (in terms of net sales) in its near-thirty year history.
Thanks to the performances of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (both of which sold over one million units), the double platinum sales figure of Devil May Cry 4, and an initial near-one million sales figure for Monster Hunter Freedom 2nd G, Capcom's coffers have managed to fill up quite nicely.
Net sales for the publisher's videogames division by 18% to 51.68 billion Yen (£252.7 million), whilst operating income rose even more markedly to 11.61 billion Yen (£56.8 million) - a jump of over 44%. The company as a whole reached net sales of 83.10 billion Yen (£406.4 million), with operating income at 13.12 billion Yen (£64.2 million), and net income standing at 10.60 billion (£51.8 million).
And that growth is set to continue, with the publisher announcing rising fortunes in the current fiscal year, which is due to end on March 31st 2009, with net sales expected to top 95.30 billion Yen (£466.0 million) and net income to reach 8.60 billion Yen (£42.1 million).
Which just about gives us a decent enough idea as to when Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV are going to arrive...don't you think?
