Konami announce staggering results for its popular rhythm/action series...
Konami of Europe today announced that a staggering 6.5 million units have been shipped worldwide in its âDancing Stageâ series. Since the series debut, a total of 1.5 million copies have shipped in Europe, 1 million in America and a phenomenal 4.5 million units in the Japanese market, where the craze originated from.
The original arcade version of the series made its Japanese debut in 1998, before Konami introduced the dancing series of the home version to the U.S. and the European market in 2001. As a result, Dancing Stage is an interactive game that is sweeping living rooms and arcades across the nation. The success has spurned others to try their hands at the genre, whilst itâs possible to buy stand-alone dance mats to plug directly into your TV.
To continue the craze Konami will be releasing âDancing Stage Unleashedâ for the Xbox in early 2004, allowing players to go online and enjoy chatting as well as network competitions. Whilst Konami have plans to diversify the brand with the release of âKaraoke Stageâ in 2004 for the Playstation2, challenging players to get up and sing instead of dancing to make prats out of themselves.
