Crysis Warhead Announced As Standalone PC Title News

EA announces Crysis Warhead as the next instalment in the Crysis series, shipping exclusively on PC this autumn...
Following various teasers from Crytek over the last few days, EA has officially announced Crysis Warhead and revealed to TVG that it's a standalone title rather than a traditional expansion pack. The game is due out this autumn exclusively on the PC.
Prior to EA's official announcement, many press outlets had suggested that Crysis Warhead would be an expansion pack to the first game. However, Crytek head honcho Cevat Yerli has previously suggested that Crysis is a planned trilogy, so perhaps it's not that surprising that another standalone Crysis game is being released one year after the first one.
Crysis Warhead will offer a new single player campaign that's set to follow the story of Sergeant Sykes (or Psycho as he's known to friends) in a parallel story arc to the first game. Psycho was captured by aliens early on in Crysis, and this next instalment will play-out on the other side of the island where we're guessing the environment is a bit colder.
"We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. "That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis."
Psycho will apparently have an even bigger arsenal of weapons at his disposal than Nomad did (the first game's protagonist), which no doubt reflects his more "brash and aggressive" demeanour. There will also be a range of new vehicles on offer and some fresh multiplayer content as well, although whether or not there will be new modes is unclear at this point.
"The best result of a partnership that we can ask for in the EA Partners program is when a world class independent studio like Crytek chooses to continue to work with us," said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. "Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise. We could not be more excited to be working with Crytek to launch another hit with Crysis Warhead this year."
Crytek is making use of its Budapest studio for Crysis Warhead, and this will be the first game to come out of the Hungarian studio.
