German developer behind ‘FarCry’ caught up in allegations of using illegal software…
Although piracy is rife within the videogames industry, it certainly comes as a surprise when you hear about allegations suggesting actual game developers using illegal software, as recently hit CryTek â“ the German developer behind the forthcoming PC title âFarCryâ.
Itâs alleged that the police raided the Bavarian offices of CryTek yesterday, after a tip-off from a previous employee that the developers were using pirated copies of Alias-Wavefront Maya and 3D Studio Max.
A CryTek representative claims that the allegations were false and came from a disgruntled ex-intern, who claimed that the German developer was using more copies of the software then they had licenses for. CryTek fervently denied the allegations, claiming that no inventory or personnel were affected in any way.
Ubisoft - the publisher behind âFarCryâ - distanced itself from the allegations today, claiming that if CryTek had used illegal software, then Ubisoft is in no way responsible.
Thankfully both CryTek and UbiSoft took the opportunity to confirm that the game wouldnât slip as a result of the allegations, suggesting that work has resumed as normal and that the game would be release in late March.
Weâll have more information soon.
