Criterion Takes To The Tracks... Again News

EA and Criterion confirm the development of Burnout 5 for the Playstation3 and Xbox 360...
Take a few moments to share a thought for Criterion, one of the UK's most prolific developers, responsible for the revered RenderWare middleware technology and the runaway Burnout franchise.
It must have been a pleasant distraction for the developer to take some time out with the explosive console first-person-shooter, BLACK, released earlier in the year; however, the demands of a high rolling franchise and a certain publishing behemoth has called the UK studio back, once more at the very least.
Confirming the development of Burnout 5 for the Playstation3 and Xbox 360, early details hint at a setting in Paradise City, dubbed the "ultimate seamless racing battleground, with a massive infrastructure of traffic-heavy roads to abuse". Players will no longer need to select races and events from menu screens, instead Burnout 5 promises a game world where every inch is built to deliver heart-stopping Burnout gameplay, every intersection a potential crash junction and every alleyway an opportunity to rack up further violations.
Each player is assigned a Driver's License upon entering Paradise City, which keeps a track of their most aggressive, reckless and destructive exploits behind the wheel. Pushing things a little too hard, however, will alert the city's most infamous burners, racing legends with no interest in who crosses the finishing line first.
"Burnout 5 is a complete reinvention of the series, built from the ground up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," said Alex Ward, director of game design at Criterion Games. "To create truly next-generation gameplay, we needed to create a truly next-generation game, from top to bottom."
Burnout 5 is slated for a release on the Playstation3 and Xbox 360 in 2007; keep your eyes peeled for further information soon.
