Koji Igarashi explains the need for gamers to educate their children about the merits of 2D gaming...
Gamasutra, the long-standing publication for anybody interested in the creation of videogames, has today conducted an interview with the father of Castlevania, Koji Igarashi.
An age-old videogame series that manages to divide older hardcore gamers and casual newcomers like very few others, Castlevania still struggles with the transformation between 2D and 3D that many classic series have endured. Expressing his fondness for 2D and explaining the well-known difficulties in taking a title based on precision, Igarashi-san claims that the Nintendo DS is the âonly possibleâ format for 2D games and suggests that the âlast fortress of 2D gamingâ could be the only platform to entice a younger audience that 2D gaming is âworthwhile and funâ.
