God of War 2's Director is leaving the SCEA Santa Monica Studios to seek out new opportunities...


Cory Barlog, the Director of one of this year's most critically acclaimed games, God of War 2, is reported by 1UP to be leaving Sony Computer Entertainment America's Santa Monica Studios. This follows the departure of David Jaffe (the Creator of the God of War series) from SCEA Santa Monica earlier this year to set up Incognito Studio.

A Spokesperson for Sony told 1UP, "We can confirm that Cory Barlog, game director for God of War II, is leaving the SCEA SM Studio and we are grateful for his work and creative vision for the critically acclaimed God of War franchise."

However, it's not all bad news for fans of the God of War series as an official confirmation of the much expected God of War 3 on PlayStation 3, was also made: "Moving forward, we are confident in the God of War team, as they are an extremely talented group of people that are passionate about the franchise and dedicated to creating even more epic content with God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP and God of War III for PS3."

Despite these reassurances from Sony, it is nevertheless a blow for one of their highest profile first party titles. Given the series' epic cinematic style and stress on detailed plot that runs alongside the gameplay, the loss of key figures in this process such as Barlog and Jaffe is a bit worrying.

Just ave your money and get a ps3. It does not matter if the the ps2 is selling more it is a last gen console. You can quote me me right here GOW 3 will never be on the ps2. Just tell me this why would you put a game that needs to be on the current g... [ Read full comment... ]

just to burst any sony fans but sony confirmed at e3 2008 there will be a further 120 games comming out on ps2 (thats right ps2) in the next 12 months, if i still had a ps3 id be a little bit worried right now as no previous last gen console has had ... [ Read full comment... ]

it would be absolutely idiotic to make it for the ps2...sony is moving forward with the ps3 u don't see microsoft making franchise games for the regular x-box, if thats the case i guess mgs4 should be on the ps2 too huh...but the game should be incre... [ Read full comment... ]

People can disagree as much as they wish. I think its totally wrong out of order that God of War 3 is coming out for the PS3 NOT for PS2 Logically that doesn't make any sense it should be for the PS2.

face facts the ps2 is still out selling the ps3 so releasing gow 3 for it makes sence (oh and graphics arnt every thing "anyone played tetris and said it had rubbish game play")
