Conan To Go Back To The Movies News

By Jon Wilcox on 15/06/2006 Following the on-going development of the Age of Conan MMO, the barbarian is set to make a re-appearance on the silver screen...

It may have been years since California Governor Arnold "Arnie" Schwarzenegger played the part of Conan the Barbarian, but with the development of the Age of Conan MMO from Funcom, it seems that Warner Brothers are preparing to bring the character back to the big screen.

Announced today, a new Conan movie is expected to go into production during the early part of 2007, which would boost the awareness of the brand as a whole, including Funcom's MMO. The company recently extended their license of the Conan name through to 2023.

"We are of course very happy to see that Warner Brothers are moving ahead with one, and potentially several, new Conan movies. We believe that this will further strengthen the Conan brand worldwide. The global fan-base of Conan will likely increase significantly and the marketing efforts of a Hollywood movie will have a very positive effect on all licensees working with the Conan brand, Funcom's Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO), 'Age of Conan', included." said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom.

We'll have more news on Age of Conan shortly...

Regardless of what you think, the teens will still play it.

This is, hands down, the best MMORPG out there when it comes to gameplay, immersion, and mature content and players. No more irritating 13 year olds!

Check out the Funcom website. They shipped 700,000 copies to retail, but a recent press release maintains that over 400,000 have logged on and started playing since it released.

Erm...where did you get the information from in this article? Common knowledge is that the game sold over 700 000 copies (110 000 of those collectors editions) on the first day of release, meaning that it beat WoW's North American & European release sales by over 170 000 on the first day. It therefore does not pale in comparison to WoW's initial sales, but beat it by quite a margin...

Dang, this has been delayed so much that I almost forgot about it. Looks like they've improved on it, but it still needs work. I think that's why they moved the release back yet again.

this says the 360 version will release the same time as the pc version which is incorrect, if the pc version releases march 25th (which it will probably be pushed back again) then the 360 version will most likely come out around september.

It's nice to see that they stuck to the gritty dark world of R.E. Howard. They could have toned it down for children like so many other games. It's nice to see a PC game geared to an older generation.
