Codemasters secure the publishing rights to a 'groundbreaking' RTS - First Info + Screens...
Codemasters today announced that it has picked up worldwide publishing rights to a groundbreaking new Real-Time Strategy (RTS), currently in development at 1C for the PC.
Set in a universe where the Earth is dying and multiple civilisations are in a race across a newly discovered galaxy to colonise the only suitable planet. This epic journey will involve exploring many new worlds, battling against other civilisations and indigenous species, all to acquire energy to continue the search for a new home.
Recognising the need for innovation in the RTS genre, āPerimeterā throws out the rulebook and introduces a wide variety of new ideas and innovations.
For the first time in RTS history the game will feature environments that change as the mission progresses; players can strategically manipulate the environment to extract energy, expand their base, increase their territory and limit their opponentās options. Itās claimed that the entire landscape can be changed by a number of influences, including special units, explosions and natural geological processes.
Crucial to success in the game comes from the ability to raise an impenetrable force field around the playerās units. This draws from your energy resources, but allows for a wide range of defensive and offensive strategies to be employed and hopefully change the routine dynamic featured in virtually every other RTS title.
Through nanotechnology players can transform units on the battlefield, giving scope for tactical opportunities to adapt combat units to a particular situation and keep up with any changes that occur during the battle.
The game contains 27 different scenario driven missions, 24 changeable units, 24 structure types, 30 single-player maps, 5 multiplayer maps and 3 unique factions.
As you can see from the screens the game is certainly looking impressive, whilst we donāt know too much about the technical details at present, itās claimed that the graphics engine is capable of manipulating 10 million polygons per second, allowing players to control up to 500 units at once.
Weāll have more on āPerimeterā very soon.
