Codemasters Announce Dragon Empires News

Let the creators of Micro Machines take you back to a world populated with dragons and orcs, fierce battles and magical spells.
Codemasters today announced one of it's most tightly kept game projects, the creation of an online massively-multiplayer-role-playing-game (MMRPG) fantasy world.
Dragon Empires is a 3D MMRPG, in which players must ally to form clans with the intention of taking over towns, and eventually creating your own empire. Set a in world set when magic is plentiful and the lives of
humans and dragons intertwined. Its world is one of 100 lands spread over five empires, a world that can be ruled by player clans, one where, uniquely, player-to-player combat is always possible and a world whose strongholds are guarded and policed by fiercely protective dragons.
Eschewing the route taken by Ultima Online and Everquest, Dragon Empires places emphasis on player-to-player combat which occurs in real-time, battles will be frequent as clans try to overthrow each other. The developers are claiming that the combat interface is extremely intuitive, a must if the full idea is to be realised.
To stop the world from de-generating into anarchy and chaos, certain rules will be administered. Whilst it's possible to kill anybody in the game world, doing so may run the risk of becoming an outlaw, penalty of which could involve facing the city prosecutors - the dragons.
Says Ted Carron, producer of Dragon Empires:
"Dragon Empires is a massive and important project as Codemasters continues to embrace new delivery platforms for gaming. The always-on combative element is something we're very excited about; the majority of existing MMORPG s are 99% co-operative and relatively slow paced. Dragon Empires is more intense and competitive, driving people into groups where the real benefit of online gaming lies.
"We're confident no other MMORPG will provide the fiercely competitive balanced battles that Dragon Empires will create an arena for."
Dragon Empires is due for an English language release in Q2 2002 on PC.
