Championship Manager 2008 Set For Christmas Release News

Eidos announce that this year's title will be released on the PC in the run-up to Christmas...

Publishers Eidos have revealed that Championship Manager 2008 will be released on the PC in Europe during the upcoming Holiday season. Although no precise date has been set, expect the title to hit the shelves around the same time as Sports Interactive's Football Manager 2008, where the two titles will once again do battle for bragging rights as the best selling football management game on the market.

Developers, Beautiful Game Studios, have made significant improvements to the 3D match engine with this year's instalment. More realistic player representations, the return of ProZone (where gamers can see an extensive break down of their team's performance), and more detail in the animations (players jostling for opposition, keepers diving for the ball etc.) will all add depth to the match engine.

The appearance of the game has also been revamped for 2008, featuring new skins, shortcuts and improvements in the user interface for greater ease of use and more accessibility. There's also a new multiplayer feature allowing gamers to play as multiple teams on one PC (a stalwart of the old Champ Man games, and slightly surprising that Eidos' new series is only just adding it).

Following the breakdown in the long-running Champ Man relationship between Eidos and Sports Interactive a few years ago, the publisher retained the Championship Manager name while SI kept the legendary database. Ever since, Football Manager (published by Sega) has consistently outsold the Championship Manager series.

Fantastic Game, at last a game you can win at least one game on, I'm a veteran at FM manger but it frustrated me on the 08 version as it does many other seasoned players...The massive Bugs in FM 08 make it bizzare and baffling to new players and old ... [ Read full comment... ]

annoyingly repetetive - very little variation available in team talks/discussions with players - bored after two or three days. 0/10!

Football Manager 2008 keeps giving me an error message close to the end of install process each time I tried to install it on my Vista Ultimate 32 bit box. This is probably due to the corrupt/terribly flawed Java install wizard that SI has adopted si... [ Read full comment... ]
