Eidos announce a new development studio currently hard at work on Championship Manager 5...
Since Eidos and Sports Interactive split in rather acrimonious ways regarding the Championship Manager franchise, itâs always been a question as to what will happen next.
As fans will know Eidos retained the rights to the Championship Manager franchise, whilst Sports Interactive held on to the database and source code that powered the games.
Today Eidos announced the formation of a new development studio â“ Beautiful Game Studios â“ and confirmed that theyâre currently hard at work on âChampionship Manager 5â.
Based in North London, Beautiful Game Studios employs 30 staff with over 100 years of cumulative game development experience between them; in total the team have worked on over 90 published titles â“ 60 of which were football related.
Whilst specific details on âChampionship Manager 5â werenât available, itâs known that the game will be released in Autumn 2004, ready in time for the next football season. Beautiful Game Studios has enlisted the services of an agency that specialises in providing player info and statistics to professional clubs around the world. Itâs claimed that the database is used by many of the worldâs top football managers and coaches; Eidos claim that âChampionship Manager 5â will make use of an even-more detailed version of this database, although whether this will be as detailed as the years spent researching for Sports Interactive remains in doubt.
In addition Eidos claim that âChampionship Manager 5â will deliver a much more âresponsive experienceâ partly because of significantly reduced loading times â“ although again this will likely cause concern amongst the CM fanatics, whoâve never worried about loading times compared to the depth of the simulation.
Finally Eidos confirmed that an all-new website www.championshipmanager.co.uk will be launched on February 1st, and will provide the first ever look at the title.
Jonathan Kemp, European managing director of Eidos says:
âBeautiful Game Studios has assembled a very talented and experienced team to continue the phenomenal success of Championship Manager, which to date has sold in excess of 4.5 million units worldwide.â
Dave Rutter, senior producer at Beautiful Game Studios says:
âWe have already implemented some key improvements and made some major new signings to ensure Championship Manager 5 will be the most realistic simulation of football management in the series. For the player it will be a smooth transition from playing Championship Manager 03/04 to Championship Manager 5, and the series will continue to offer an unrivalled gameplay experience.â
Weâll have a closer look at âChampionship Manager 5â soon.
