Eidos set to release its first update without Sports Interactive in less than three weeks...


Eidos Interactive have today announced that itâs long awaited iteration of Championship Manager is set for a UK launch on March 18th 2005,followed by the gameâs international release on April 1st 2005. This follows yesterdayâs launch of Championship Manager Online, which is available to play with a subscription at www.cm-online.com.

Championship Manager 5 will be the first version of the game without original developer Sports Interactive, who have gone on to create the hugely successful Football Manager 2005.

Confirming the release date of the game, John Webb, Championship Manager Brand Director at Eidos says: "Championship Manager 5 represents a major step-change for this award-winning franchise. We've responded to consumer demands and delivered a simulation with the realism and detail loved of Championship Manager yet made it much faster and more accessible. Championship Manager 5 delivers for existing Championship Manager fans plus will attract many new devotees to the brand."

The branding of Championship Manager is of course very powerful, but with Football Manager 2005 released only a few months ago, the question has to be asked â“ can the PC market sustain two AAA football manager sims?
