Capcom & Nintendo Combat R4 Piracy [UPDATE] News

By Chris Leyton on 29/07/2008 Japanese DS publishers and developers unite to bring a lawsuit against the piracy device...

In the ongoing saga surrounding the R4 cartridge, Nintendo, Capcom, and other DS developers have recently filed a lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court against devices as represented by 'R4 Revolution for DS'.

The R4 card allows DS users to bypass security and run titles illegally downloaded from the internet. It has become such an issue that numerous publishers have expressed concern at the impact on DS sales, amidst some claims that up to 90% of DS users could be playing pirated software.

In an announcement signalling the first move against the device, Capcom confirmed that it is seeking the suspension of further sales amongst other damages and describes the loss of sales as "tremendous".

Capcom also maintains that the unified collection of DS developers and publishers will continue their fight against any similar devices.

[UPDATE] Further details have emerged which specify that 53 other software publishers and developers have joined with Nintendo and Capcom in filing the lawsuit, which is against five Japanese firms.

Notable companies that have joined forces in filing the lawsuit include SEGA, Square Enix, Taito, Hudson, Tecmo, Pokemon Inc., and KOEI.

Eh?  Game & Watch?  So I can only play one game ont he DS?  Beyond a similar style and look with the original DS, I'm not really sure where the comparison comes from.

I once owned a DS lite and spent many hours playing it. I think it is ideal for the younger gaming generation although for me personally the psp is far better. I think in comparrison to the psp the nintendo ds is slightly overpriced.
