Second year in the red for the highly acclaimed Japanese publisher…
Capcom has today lowered its outlook for the fiscal year ending March 31, from an estimated 4.2 billion yen profit to a 9.4 billion yen deficit, making it the second year in a row that the Japanese publisher has suffered losses.
In addition sales projections were lowered from 63 billion yen to 51 billion yen, as Capcom faced up to lower then expected demand for its titles during 2003.
Marking the substantial internal changes currently underway at their Japanese studios, Capcom confirmed its intention of opening up a new development studio, based near its headquarters in Osaka. Clover Studio will be headed by Atsushi Inaba, famed producer of Viewtiful Joe and Steel Battalion, in the hope that this will lead to increased originality in its products.
Ironically the formation comes mere days after Capcom confirmed that both its Tokyo Studio and Production Studio 6 would be closed, responsible for its PC titles and the poorly received Chaos Legion respectively.
