New modes and leaderboards set to feature in the forthcoming Xbox Live Arcade release of the classic title...
Further to yesterday's news that Street Fighter II will be available to download via Xbox Live Arcade in the near future, Capcom have released details on the title including news of a new 'Quarters' mode.
Street Fighter II will feature a range of online and offline modes (plus Xbox 360 Achievements) such as the 'Quarter Mode', which aims to recreate the arcade atmosphere of old by allowing gamers to spectate matches before throwing in their 'quarter' to claim the next match. Rival gamers can also check out the competition by highlighting a virtual quarter to look at their stats.
Offline modes for the game will include Arcade Mode, where single-players progress through the ranks of competition, a two-player Vs. Mode, a Training Mode, and CPU Battle enabling gamers to take on a computer controlled character in single bout combat.
A range of Leaderboards will also be available, enabling gamers to view the best overall fighter, the top monthly fighter, as well as seeing who's the best with each of the twelve fighters and who has the most consecutive wins.
Although it'll be available as a feature-limited trial version, the full version of Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting will include all eight of the original characters and also enable gamers to choose to play as any of the four boss characters M.Bison, Vega, Sagat, and Balrog.
"We are extremely excited to partner with Capcom on Xbox Live Arcade," said Greg Canessa, Group Manager of Xbox Live Arcade at Microsoft. "Street Fighter is one of the most recognized and successful game franchises in history and it is an absolute honor to bring the arcade classic Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting to Xbox 360 users across the globe. Offering this flagship title in Xbox Live Arcade and imbuing it with full Xbox Live support is the answer to many gamers' dreams, including mine."
Also Capcom haven't confirmed a release date for Street Fighter II, Peter Moore's comments seemed to suggest that the game will be available by March 2006.
We'll have more news shortly...
