Steady growth for the Japanese publisher, despite a severe downturn from the arcade games division...

Capcom today delivered financials displaying steady growth for the six month period ended September 30th. Net sales for the Japanese publisher increased by 6.6% from the same term last year to 31.11 billion yen (£130.14 million), which led to a 0.5% rise in operating income at 3.06 billion yen (£12.80 million). Net income however decreased compared to last year's results, a drop of 16.4% to 1.60 billion yen (£6.69 million).

Capcom attributed its success for the period to strong overseas sales of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, along with the continued success of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 for the PSP in Japan and steady sales for Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney on the DS, which has reached 500,000 units for the first time.

Whilst Capcom's consumer games division continues to gather momentum, it seems a different story for the publisher's other divisions, most notable the Arcade Games unit. Without any leading titles to show during the six month period and with defects found in Donkey Kong Banana Kingdom, Capcom's Arcade Games posted a loss of 971 million yen (£4.06 million) compared to an operating income of 893 million yen in the previous period (£3.74 million).
